Sweden and England will face each other on Saturday, June 7th at 4pm (CET).

Probably no one expected Sweden to arrive at this point in Russia 2018.

Similarly, England are also not a regular of these stages.

The three lions have not reached the quarterfinals of a World Cup since 2006, when they were defeated on penalties by Portugal.

Given the lack of experience at these levels by both teams, this challenge between England and Sweden could reserve some surprises.

The Three Lions have met the Swedes on 25 previous occasions, coming out on top eight times compared to Sweden’s seven, with nine draws.

Both previous World Cup meetings were in the group stages and finished level.

Sweden are competing in their fifth World Cup quarterfinal and they progressed to the semi-final in three of their previous four they arrived at this stage of the competition.

England on the other hand have only progressed from two of their eight previous World Cup quarterfinal appearances, doing so in 1966 and 1990.

The best scorer of this challenge is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with four goals from the last meeting between the two national teams: on November 14th 2012 in Stockholm where the Scandinavians imposed themselves for 4-2.

Sweden vs England – Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Sweden arrives at the quarterfinal stage as the absolute surprise of the tournament, probably more than the hosts Russia.

The numbers of the Scandinavian national indicate that they are one of the most solid teams of this World Cup: in three games out of four Sweden managed to keep a clean sheet.

They might not be the most spectacular team, but they are certainly the most concrete and disciplined and they have the capability of not letting oppositions play their game plans.

England on the other hand raised high expectations after the two victories against Tunisia and Panama.

The subsequent defeat against Belgium and the draw after 120 minutes with Colombia have instead somewhat lowered these expectations even though The three lions football fans are still believe that this could finally be the time where ‘football is coming home’.

Compared to the past, England are more conscious of their qualities and seem to be technically more prepared.

Probable formations

Dele Alli returned to the starting XI for England vs Colombia after missing the games against Panama and Belgium.

However, he struggled to make an impact and could be replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Celtic and Sweden right-back Mikael Lustig will not be available after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament against Switzerland.

Bologna’s defender Emil Krafth could replace him.

Sebastian Larsson will be available however after serving his suspension.

Yellow cards will expire after the completion of this quarterfinal.
Sweden (4-4-2): Olsen; Krafth, Lindelof, Granqvist, Augustinsson; Claesson, Larsson, Ekdal, Forsberg; Berg, Toivonen. Coach. Andersson
England (3-4-3): Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Henderson, Alli, Young; Lingard, Kane, Sterling. Coach. Southgate

Sweden vs England players to watch

Harry Kane’s penalty meant that no England player had scored more World Cup goals in a single tournament than six he has so far.

Harry Kane To Score 2 Or More goals (In 90 Mins) is a good bet at 6.50.
