Getting To know Justify The Horse Pedigree
As we mentioned at the start of this article, Justify has emerged as the pre-race pick to win the Kentucky Derby 2018.
Justify, who recently won the Santa Anita Derby, is the morning line favorite at 3–1 and will start at the No. 7 post.
The three-year-old colt is 3-0 in his short career.
He did not race as a two-year-old, so winning the Derby would put him in rare company.
As the majority of horses who have won the Kentucky Derby have a little more experience under their belt, unlike Justify.
Few other horses have been successful in winning the Kentucky Derby under the age of 3 years old.
So much so, that is actually a horse racing term known as the Apollo Curse… let us explain.
Back in 1882 an inexperienced colt named Apollo won the Kentucky Derby and has since been the only horse to win the race without ever racing as a two-year-old.
The “Curse of Apollo” has kept any other horse from achieving the feat.
Justify comes into Kentucky after impressing in his Santa Anita Derby win in early April, beating the experienced Bolt d'Oro, which is named after
Olympian sprinter Usain Bolt.
As sons of top sire Scat Daddy, Justify will compete against his half-brother Mendelssohn.
The Europe-based horse was selected as the 5-1 second choice after drawing the No. 14 post.
Four-time Derby winner Bob Baffert trains Justify, Drayden Van Dyke is his jockey.
This what Bob Baffert had to say about Justify,
“He has always been a superior animal,” Baffert said after the horse was back at the barn following a light exercise. “When you are that big and beautiful and can run … all the ingredients are there.”
Do you think Justify the pedigree horse has what it takes to win the 144th Kentucky Derby 2018?
