Mendelssohn is one of the top contenders for this year’s Kentucky Derby and also a very interesting Wild Card.
Well, Mendelssohn took the horse racing nation by surprise with the 106 Beyer Speed Figure he earned for his March 31 romp in the great UAE Derby.
For this reason and many more which we will mention later on in this article, Mendelssohn will be a serious threat at Churchill Downs on May 5th.
Let’s see if Mendelssohn and the Kentucky Derby 2018 are a good match after all…
Mendelssohn A Top Contender For The Kentucky Derby
Owner: Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier & Michael Tabor
Trainer: A P O'Brien
Breeder: Clarkland Farm
One of the main reasons that this horse is a contender for the Kentucky Derby 2018 is due to the fact that he is trained by one of the best in the world puts him ahead of the pack.
Irishman Aidan O’Brien has managed to bring this horse to success for the third consecutive time especially after his $2 million UAE Derby win.
He was also the proud winner of the $ 1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on the 3rd of November 2017.
It’s interesting to see where his glory days all started from and for this wild card it began with his win at Dundalk in the 1 mile Patton Stakes in his dirt debut, a terrain he is seem to be built for.
This will, in fact, be O’Brien’s 6th Kentucky Derby runner and seems to be his best chance yet for his first Kentucky Derby win.
Mendelssohn could very possibly his first Derby win, especially since he was the highest-priced American at jaw-dropping $3 million.
Mendelssohn is a strong Kentucky Derby entrant that will be priced below a number of the other top contenders.
He’s 10-1 in the final Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool.
Whilst he is one of the horses with less experience he is surely not to be overlooked and stands a strong chance of being the first wild card to take the Kentucky Derby by storm.
