July 3, 2017 8 min to read

If you’re based anywhere else than Nigeria, you probably haven’t heard about our next bookmaker – NairaBet.

It’s one of the oldest and most established sportsbooks on Nigerian market and boasts a stellar reputation among locals. NairaBet offers odds on all major sports as well as Live play and virtual games, so there’s something for everyone.

With sports betting increasingly growing in Nigeria, this bookmaker is one of the places to go. But, from our experience, it’s a better choice for players who are already experienced in sports betting.

One of the best things is the fact that NairaBet accepts Naira as their currency which is one of the biggest benefits for Nigerian bettors!

Let’s see if NairaBet is as good as its owner, Akin Alabi, claims it to be.

NairaBet: An Overview

  • Name: NairaBET

  • Rating: 3.0/5.0

NairaBet is the oldest sportsbook and casino that has been established in Nigeria. It started operating in 2009 and holds a license from the Lagos State Lottery Board.

What’s quite unusual about NairaBet is the owner… Usually betting websites are part of a bigger company that is well established in the iGaming world.

But, NairaBet was founded by a Nigerian politician and philanthropist – Akin Alabi. He’s a well-known businessman, responsible for launching motivational seminars and helping young people to set up their own businesses.

He’s also heavily involved in the entertainment industry, managing local artists and supporting the up and coming talent.

His idea for NiaraBet came from observing the trend in society and growing interest in sports betting. Hence, he decided to go where the money is and created how own betting platform.

Nowadays, NairaBet has an only competitor – Bet9ja – and it offers sports betting, casino, virtual games and Colossus (a platform for pool betting).

The only country that is allowed at NairaBet is Nigeria and the local currency – Naira.

NairaBet has odds for all major sports and leagues, especially football. It also covers most popular leagues in football, baseball and tennis.

NairaBet Website & Mobile App

The sportsbook website has a modern design and a user-friendly interface, which is very easy to navigate.

Even though NairaBet thrives to enhance the betting experience wherever you are, it doesn’t have a mobile application.

You can access the bookmaker via a mobile-friendly website that has been optimised for all devices, including iPads.

The mobile website has a similar design to its desktop partner and it features the same functions. You also have a choice of two versions of the mobile website: small and large. This feature becomes useful when your mobile has unusual screen dimensions.

Players can also access Live betting, so wagering is possible regardless of the location.

Who Is NairaBet For?

Considering NairaBet is one of the most established bookmakers on Nigerian market, it’s not the easiest platform to start from.

The bookmaker doesn’t offer a Welcome Bonus and their deposit methods might be confusing for a rookie. Especially, if it’s your first time betting.

But, if you’re an experienced bettor, you will find your way around the website easily. The bonuses, on the other hand, are limited to specific games. In comparison to worldwide bookmakers which can offer much more and multiply your winnings.

NairaBet Sportsbook Rating

Nigeria’s citizens don’t have much choice when it comes to bookmakers. But, when comparing to Bet9ja, it leaves a big area for improvement. Hence, we decided to give it ⅗ stars!

One of the requirements nowadays is to offer a Welcome Bonus to players and this is a huge drawback for NairaBet. Not all bettors enjoy Live playing, and this is where the bonuses are the juiciest.

On a positive note, NairaBet accepts Naira as a currency which, as any Nigerian bettor will know, is a rare thing to see.

We haven’t experienced any issues with NairaBet but we came across a few complaints regarding a delayed payment or slow customer service response. While it’s not a deciding factor, and you might have an excellent experience, we couldn’t ignore complaints from regular users.

You can join NairaBet here.
