The last tennis event of the year will soon come to an end on the 10th September 2017. The US Open is well under way now in New York with some of the finest tennis player to ever step onto the court.
The US Open is often regarded as the most anticipated and prestigious tennis event of the year, maybe because it is the last Grand Slam of the four yearly tournaments.
As the competition draws to an end this can only mean that the semi finals are fast approaching and tennis enthusiasts around the globe can’t wait to see tennis giants Nadal and Federer play.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are both tennis champions and the only two returning champions to head to the semi finals. Since Novak Djokovic did not participate in the US Open 2017 and earlier this week the 4th tennis henchman dropped out of the US Open.
Andy Murray announced that he will have to withdraw from the competition to avoid having surgery on his troublesome hip.
The former world no. 1 has been nursing the injury since the week before Wimbledon having previously this year suffered from illness and an elbow injury.
This was not an easy decision for the tennis player to make but following instructions from experts in Switzerland it was advised that he stop playing for a while..
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in the upcoming events in Beijing and Shanghai, and most likely, the final two events to finish the season in Vienna and Paris due to my hip injury which has been bothering me the last few months,” he said.
What Can We Expect From The US Open Semi Final?
Nothing less than the best swings in tennis, to put it broadly.
Federer kicked off his time at the US Open with a back-to-back five set battle with two younger players, Frances Tiafoe and Mikhail Youzhny.
These were not the easiest of matches and the all-star player most definitely had his work cut out for him.
He found better footing in the following games with Feliciano Lopez and Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Nadal on the other will face his opponent on the 6th of September, Andrey Rublev is youngest US Open quarter finalist since Andy Roddick back in 2001.
This match will mark the first meeting between a 30+ player and the teenage Grand Slam quarter-finalist since 1990. Whilst the outcome of the match could be easily predicted we’re sure that Nadal will have to fiercely defend his title.
Nadal began the US Open to a slow start but reminded us all of his sharp skill set during the Alexandr Dolgopolov match.
What Lies Ahead For Nadal And Federer?
If Roger Federer wins and Nadal loses than Federer will reclaim the top of the Emirates ATP RUS Open 2017 on Monday. He will be the oldest ranking World number one since they were established in 1973.
On the other hand, if Federer loses and Rafael Nadal, then Nadal will remain in the No.1 spot.
Should Federer and Nadal both win the semifinals that they will face each other in the US Open meeting on Friday. Tennis fans are keen to see who will claim the no.1 spot on the 1oth September.
