The time has finally come.
We are days away from one of the biggest sports events of the year.
The NFL has been the ruling sport in the US for many decades now and the final game of the season is one of the most viewed broadcasts worldwide.
After doing an extended analysis to both of the Conference Championships we are going to discuss which team and why will they be the 2018 Super Bowl winner.
If you want to read more about the Super Bowl 2018 Kickoff, look at our newest article.
We may even throw a bit of betting tips in just to make it even more interesting for you.
In this article we will discuss:
- The AFC
- The NFC
- Injuries/ Penalties
- Super Bowl Winner
What Happened In The Conference Championships?
As the professionals we are, we sat down after the day was over and re-watched both of the games.
We took notes on every single attempt for a goal and touchdown, we know how many rushing and passing yards each player had, and everything else that may indicate how the Super Bowl game will unravel.
So why was everyone speaking about the Conference Championships?
If you have seen them both then you’d know.
You don’t have to worry though, because even if you weren’t lucky enough to catch both games on TV then we are here to fill you in.
The game between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles started just like any other game.
Some good passes, lots and lots of good defence with an abundance of first downs and everything else you would expect from two of the top teams in NFL.
Even though the Jaguars had the game all to themselves, the Patriots managed to turn it their way in the last 9 minutes of the 4th quarter and take the victory.
How did this happen and what does it mean when we look forward to the Super Bowl.
The statistics are lying.
If you take a look at the game’s stats you will see that the Jags were playing better than the Patriots by far.
More total plays, more yards, more rushing attempts and the list goes on and on.
They even had 35 (exactly 35:08) minutes possession while the Patriots had only 25 (exactly 24:52).
So what happened?
The Jags had more yards but they also had much more attempts than the Patriots.
That means that New England’s players were playing more efficiently and thus needed neither more time nor more opportunities to score.
Quarterback is the base of the pyramid.
When you have a quarterback like Tom Brady you know that you will be set no matter what happens.
And the 40-year-old player didn’t disappoint the fans.
On the contrary, actually, that may as well have been his best performance of the season so far.
We also have a more detailed article about the appearance of the Patriots at the Super Bowl.
Sure, the Patriots had the first quarter at 0-3 but in the second quarter that turned into a 14-10 and on the third it went up to 17-10.
In the beginning of the 4th quarter, everything seemed to be going badly for them as the score changed to 20-10 in favor of the Jaguars, of course.
This is where the magic happened.
Tom Brady, having lost one of his best partners in crime, Rob Gronkowski mid-second quarter didn’t have many options.
Thankfully Danny Amendola and the rest of the team were still in play.
Brady delivered two magnificent passes that lead to a touchdown and if you add both of the two subsequent goals after that then two attacks award them with 7 points each skyrocketing them to 20-24.
In the last minute, the Jags knew it was over and just let the clock run out.
Now regarding their quarterback, the Jags were in great shape as well.
Their main player, Blake Bortles, delivered an astonishing performance that led to an excellent 20 points.
Even though they didn’t win they were a strong AFC Championship contestant. Better luck next year!
Many of you may not be aware of this but in Sunday’s game, Tom Brady was injured.
You may have noticed the discomfort he was in throughout the game.
That wasn’t pressure. It most likely was his hand hurting from all the sudden movements.
He had to get 12 stitches. That didn’t interfere with his game, though.
The NFC side and the Vikings were affected by an injury much more but we will talk about that later.
Brady wasn’t the only one having trouble though.
Rob Gronkowski went out of play in the middle of the second quarter due to a hit in the head while a Jags defensive smashed his helmet onto his.
According to the medical staff, he got a concussion and was unable to return to play.
We can’t know how the Super Bowl game will play out and who is going to win, but the possibility of witnessing as many penalties as the Jaguars – Patriots had are very slim.
The Jaguars kept losing yards due to their harsh playing style.
This gave the edge to the Patriots who grabbed onto the opportunity and kept on pushing on throughout the second half.
This is going to be the last thing we say about the AFC game.
If the Jaguars were more careful and got to Brady before he managed to get a pass through then the game would be theirs for the taking and they may as well turn out being the 2018 Super Bowl winners.
The only thing left to say is congratulations to the Patriots, to Belichick, and to his assistant.
In the end, the best team always wins!Get More Super Bowl Predictions
This was even bigger of a surprise than the AFC game.
The Minnesota Vikings, a historic team, lost by the Philadelphia Eagles.
No, scratch that. They were dominated!
The best defensive line of the NFL season was demolished by the Eagles’ offense.
So without further ado, we are going to elaborate on the same 5 sections we referred to before.
If you thought that the statistics were lying before, then look at what happened in that Conference Championship.
The best defensive line in the NFL was that of the Minnesota Vikings which received an average of only 15.8 points per game.
Their offense was considered 10th best in the NFL for this season with an average of 23.9 points per game.
As it turns out they didn’t receive 38 points alone but they also managed to score only 7 points for a grand finale of 7-38 in favor of the Eagles.
The only time the Vikings scored was in the first quarter. From there onward, everything was disastrous for them.
Now regarding the statistics of the game, this case is different than what happened in the AFC game.
Here the team with the most minutes of possession, most attempts, yards etc. indeed managed to win the game and get a ticket to the Super Bowl.
Previously we mentioned that the quarterback is the most important player for an American football team.
In the Vikings-Eagles game, we had Case Keenum of the Vikings going against Nick Foles from the side of the Birds.
I guess we don’t have to say which one performed better as this is self-explanatory.
Just know that the Eagles weren’t playing with their main quarterback as Foles was a substitute for another player.
Indeed, Foles wasn’t the main quarterback of the Eagles for most of the games.
Their starting quarterback was Carson Wentz who got badly injured in a game early in December and was unable to return for the rest of the season.
Even though he was the second choice, Foles managed to deliver an impeccable performance against the Vikings.
Other than that they had some other smaller injuries that wouldn’t affect the overall performance of their team.
The Vikings, on the other hand, had no excuse whatsoever.
They played bad and the only result left for them to take home with them was a defeat.
That being said, playing in the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is something very tough and only a few teams managed to get a victory against the Birds throughout the pre-season and the regular season.
Penalties didn’t play a big role in the game as, from what you have seen and heard so far, the Vikings weren’t really contesting the game after the first half.
Because of that we still don’t know whether this is going to affect the Super Bowl game or not.
However, the Patriots had only 1 penalty whereas the Eagles had 4 in their respective game.
Once again, since the Vikings didn’t manage to do much offensive-wise we can’t be sure whether the Eagles are going to perform well against the Patriot’s offense.
If they manage to stop Tom Brady before he gives off a pass, though, then they may have a chance to turn the tides and become the 2018 Super Bowl winner.
2018 Super Bowl Winner
So according to what we have said up to this point here is our analysis and prediction on the upcoming Super Bowl game which is going to take place on February 4th at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcasted by CBS as well as many other major channels and media distributors.
If you want to get more information about the Live Streaming.
Regarding the offence, the Patriots managed to win over the great defensive line of the Jaguars.
The Vikings aren’t such an offensive team so the victory of the Eagles doesn’t mean that their defence is any better than that of the Jags.
Thus, in a head to head game, the Patriots would win most of the times.
As for the offensive play, this is where things tend to actually differ, by a lot if we may say so.
Yes, the Patriots alongside Tom Brady’s help managed to get a win in the Conference Championships.
Let’s not forget, though, that both they and the Eagles (two finalists) were playing in their home stadiums.
Both are two of the most difficult venues for the visiting team to win.
Regarding the Eagles, Nick Foles is very good but in no case does he have the experience or talent that Tom Brady has.
We strongly believe that the Super Bowl game will end on a close call.
It will most likely be with 6 points or less.Sign Up To Bovada Here
