In case you hadn’t noticed, there is a rather big football tournament coming up next year that will allow us to witness some of the worlds finest footballing talent.
The 2018 World Cup is going to be held in Russia in June of next year and we already know which countries have qualified and which have fallen by the wayside during their qualification campaigns.
However, while many of us would have thought long and hard about which team we believe will win the World Cup, we might have forgotten that we can also bet on World Cup 2018 Top Scorer.
With so many great players at the World Cup, deciding upon which of them we feel could go and blast more goals than any of the rest is going to be a difficult decision.
To make it a little easier, we have compiled the current top ten favourites for the Golden Boot and the average odds that they have been given currently.
Please remember that these odds are likely to change as the domestic football seasons continue, players, go on runs of form and others pick up injuries.

If you see some odds that you think are excellent value, get your bets down now before they change for the worse.
Neymar – 7/1
Neymar seems to be just edging it over his former teammate Lionel Messi among most online sportsbooks as the favourite to become the leading goalscorer at the 2018 World Cup.
Let’s not forget that these two had formed one of the most lethal frontlines alongside Luis Suarez at Barcelona before Neymar decided he wanted a new challenge and ended up at Paris Saint Germain for a world record transfer fee.
222 million Euros is certainly a lot of money and he has certainly lived up to his price tag in France so far.
As for why he is favourite for the Golden Boot, we think this is more down to the fact that he plays for Brazil who is seen as the second favourites for the outright win and Messi and his Argentinian team are considered outsiders around the 6th favourite mark.
Lionel Messi – 9/1
What is there to be said about Lionel Messi that has not be said before.
Widely thought of being one of (if not) the greatest players of all time, this living legend has notched an amazing 374 goals in 398 appearances for Barcelona.
While not quite as amazing is his haul for the Argentinian national team with 61 goals in 123 performances, that it still an excellent record considering the inconsistency of that team.
Many people have said that should he ever win a World Cup with Argentina, he would probably finally be lauded by the majority as the greatest player to have ever lived.
Even being put ahead of the likes of Maradona and Pele.
He will be 31 when the World Cup kicks off next year, so the chances are that this might just be his last chance.
You certainly would not bet against him pulling it off either.
How good would an Argentina v Portugal and Messi v Ronaldo World Cup final be?
Timo Werner – 11/1
A big reason why Germany is among the favourites to win the World Cup in 2018 is that there are goals all over the team.
There is no single big name star as they all work as one unit in the true German style.
If there was one player that stood a chance of becoming the winner of the Golden Boot at next years World Cup, however, it would definitely be that of the young Timo Werner.
Having finished the 2016/2017 season as the highest German scorer in the Bundesliga, the 21-year-old is one of the favourites for the award.
Showing a maturity way past his years, this player has a big future and should he inflate his reputation even further here, he could have the worlds biggest clubs chasing his signature.
He certainly has the potential to be a leading star in the future and is well on his way to becoming one.
Alvaro Morata – 11/1
Alvaro Morata is another striker that has a very good chance of becoming the leading goalscorer at next years World Cup in Russia.
Still only 25 years old, Morata has already played for three of the worlds biggest clubs.
He started out at Real Madrid before being bought by Juventus. Real Madrid then brought him back before he sealed a 60+ million Euro switch to Chelsea in England.
At an international level, he has managed 13 goals in 23 appearances for Spain since he first pulled on the shirt in 2014.
He is really starting to come of age now and with experience of playing all over Europe, this guy has an old and wise head on relatively young shoulders.
As for the Spanish squad, they are deemed to be on the ageing side and while they still have immense talent, many feel that other nations will just have a bit too much for them.
Still, you would be foolish to completely rule them out with their recent history in international tournaments.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 12/1
Cristiano Ronaldo along with Lionel Messi is considered one of the greatest players of all time and rather amazingly, is a direct rival to the Argentinian at club level as he represents Real Madrid while Messi is a Barcelona legend.
Ronaldo has managed to do one thing that Messi has not managed just yet and that is winning a major international tournament.
He and his Portugal side managed to take down the Euro 2016 title.
With 289 goals in 276 games for Real Madrid, Ronaldo is, without doubt, one of the best players on the planet right now and will go down in history as one of the greatest.
People will talk about the Messi/Ronaldo conundrum for many years in much the same way people discuss Maradona and Pele.
Does he have a chance of becoming the top goalscorer at the World Cup? Without a doubt and with average odds being around the 12/1 mark, there is some excellent potential to record some healthy profits.
Gabriel Jesus – 14/1
At just 20 years of age, Gabriel Jesus is a young footballer that has the world at his feet and is a shoe-in to make the Brazil squad for the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Having moved to Manchester City earlier this year in January in a deal worth 33 million Euros, Jesus has since become something of a revelation.
Being a highly versatile player, he is able to play in most attacking positions and has been used as such by the club.
At 14/1, he has some pretty big odds and could be worth a sneaky punt.
Of course, with Neymar as your teammate, it will not be easy to score more goals but he is more of an unknown quantity compared to his teammate who is known throughout the world for what he can do.
Harry Kane – 20/1
Harry Kane has had quite a few sensational years at Tottenham Hotspur it has to be said.
With 90 goals in 130 appearances for the club in a very tough and competitive English Premier League, he has been the top scorer in the league for the past two seasons and is currently sitting in second place this season.
His form has also translated itself to the national team and he finds himself as the number one choice to play up front.
The question will be if this England squad is good enough to get far enough to give Kane a chance at winning the top goalscorer award.
Nothing can happen of course and England completely dominated their qualifying group but they do have a history of choking when it comes to big tournaments.
Could this be the year that this changes?
Antoine Griezmann – 20/1
We can see certainly some excellent talent that has emerged over recent years and Antoine Griezmann is another of them.
The French international is a player that has had some of the worlds largest clubs chasing his signature over recent seasons but he has stayed faithful to his most recent club Atletico Madrid.
At odds of 20/1, Griezmann is surely worth a look having won the golden boot award at the 2016 Euros.
Furthermore, the French are very highly rated for this tournament and are currently the third favourites to be the outright winners.
In fact, an accumulator of France to win the World Cup and Griezmann to claim the Golden Boot is a bet that could bring in a memorable win for your bank balance.
Thomas Muller – 20/1
Depending on where Thomas Muller lines up the German team, he could be an excellent option as a dark horse for the Golden Boot award at the World Cup.
The versatile player can play can play all across the midfield or up front and has always had a keen eye for where the goal is.
In fact, he has a record of one goal in every three matches he plays for Bayern Munich and at an international level that rate is ever so slightly better.
We feel he is likely to play either in midfield or behind a lone striker in Russia, so we would probably opt for a player on this list that is going to feature is a more advanced role.
You never know, however, so it could be worth a small bet that could turn into some big winnings.
Romelu Lukaku – 25/1
Romelu Lukaku started life brightly for his new club Manchester United after a big money moves from Everton in the summer but has since started to falter a little bit.
That being said, he has always scored goals no matter where he has been and should never be discounted.
What might hold him back is that he plays for Belgium and while they have some fantastic individual talent, they have not yet clicked in a big way in international tournaments.
That could all be set to change however and Lukaku at 25/1 to be a top scorer in any tournament is definitely worth consideration.
He has bags of pace, can score from anywhere and has that natural finishing ability that only the best players seem to have.
